THIS MOTOR CAR:
Completed in May 1962, this 3.8L E-type Series 1 Fix Head Coupe was first delivered and bought by Ian Appelyards, the proprietor of the Jaguar distributor in Leeds, England. Interestingly, Mr Appelyards was also "The Father of the Jaguar Marque", Sir William Lyons' Son in Law. This dealership was used to prepare competition cars and it was believed that the ultra rare Overdrive transmission was installed by Mr Appelyards. The installation of this OD unit required some rather sophisticated fabrication to the gearshift console and driveshaft tunnel in order to accommodate the O.D. and these modifications were carried out to a very high standard.
As documented by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate, this is a fully matching number car. Equipped with triple Webers and a 4 speed manual transmission with Overdrive, this gearing puts the top end of this car well in excess of 150 mph!
Once a "Barn Find" in the United States, this car was fully restored over the past few years by a marque specialist with a huge amount invested and with Every nut and bolt attended to. The story was that Mr Peter Baker, a US Air Force officer stationed in Europe at the time, purchased this cars second-hand in England and subsequently moved to Germany with it. While in Germany, Peter modified the car by installing Triple Webber Carburetors, Koni Shocks and special Sprinzel Racing seats so that he could run it on the Nurburgring track. This car was Peter's pride, joy and passion. In the early 70s, Mr Baker moved back to the United States in the Santa Cruz SF Bay Area and the car has been stored under numerous tarps for 30 years.
Since 2016, this once glorious but now a "barn find" was subjected to a "No Expense Spared" total restoration by XKS Motorsport in San Luis Obispo, California.
